"the mind is a place of its own, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven." - john milton
This particular quote has always fascinated me, ever since the moment I first stumbled upon it. How true it is, as well. Thinking about it, our minds must be more than the complex yet conceptually simple organ transmitting messages to the rest of our body a million times a second. No...the mind is a spectacular web of consciousness, able to make both the best and worst of any situation.
I've been deliberating for a long time on whether or not to create a blog, and I've finally decided just to go ahead and do it. Why wait?
First posts are always awkward, so I'll try to make this as smooth as possible, so perhaps in five years when I come to look back on this chuck of text I won't feel as hopelessly ashamed.
My name is Arya. Well, no, it isn't, but this is the name I'm going to be going by on here for the foreseeable future, just to be safe from all the terrors lurking just outside of my frosty bedroom window. But I'm not here to talk about windows, nor the small crystals of ice that settles on them. My purpose here, on this unnavigable matrix known as the Internet, is to simply share my perspective on life, the little things in it, and skip the way on my pursuit of happiness.
So let's allow you to get to know me better by a simple, cliched game of ten interesting facts about me!
1. I have an unhealthy attachment to quotes, superhero stories and fairy tales.
2. Writing and reading literature are the primary forces behind my existence, that and hot chocolate.
3. I am, always have been, and will forever strive to be, a fierce optimist.
4. I am young. As in an early adolescent. As in 14, of this day and age. Also am a female, if that wasn't made obvious enough.
5. I am a firm believer in saving the world. I aspire to one day be an environmental warrior.
6. Alaska, to me, is the embodiment of heaven.
7. My love and admiration of wolves is incomprehensible.
8. I love my family with every shred of strength I have in me.
9. I daydream way too much to be normal.
10. My number one goal in life is to be happy.
As we continue on this adventure together, you'll find out more about my interests, my discomforts and other strange little oddities that make me who I am. But hopefully, this is enough to make you even the slightest bit intrigued.
On this map of my mind I'll be regularly posting reviews of books that I have read, quips and quirks of my daily life and the miscellaneous questions that wander through my mind, and maybe even, one day, I'll post some of my very own writing for you to read.
But that's all from me today. I hope you have a very pleasant and fulfilling day/night, wherever you may be.
If you have your head in the clouds, then leave it there. The best realities are made from the substance of dreams.
